The Dubois County Fire Trainer’s Association will again be presenting the courses for Firefighter certification this year. The course has a start date of 1 June 2015. The weekly class schedule will be Monday and Thursday nights beginning at 1830 (6:30 pm) hours Eastern Time. Some Saturday sessions will be necessary. The classroom sessions will be held this year at the Huntingburg Fire Station One located at 501 E. First St. in Huntingburg.

This year’s course will be conducted under the State’s Modular System and using the Fire Engineering curriculum. Upon successful completion, students will hold certification in Technical Rescue Awareness, Hazmat Awareness & Operations, and Firefighter I/II. The new Modular System promises to be much simpler for the students to test on. Students will be tested on smaller portions of the curriculum as opposed to the entire course at its conclusion. All students will be required to have a copy of the Fire Engineering handbook for Firefighter I/II Indiana Edition for the course. All students must have their PSID number prior to the start of the course.

Attendance during skills nights are mandatory and you must complete the practical skills test to sit for the final online exam and receive IDHS certification.

This will be a LIVE fire in an acquired structure done in accordance to NFPA 1403.

Class will start at the training house at 5388 St Rd 42 Poland Ind 47868

 

Class Rules:

·         Students must bring their own SCBA & bunker gear.

·         Bunker gear ensemble includes NFPA-compliant turnout coat and pants, helmet, hood, firefighting boots, and gloves. NOTE: Everyone needs to also bring a spare SCBA bottle.

·         All firefighters who attend the above IDLH (immediate danger to life and health) class shall complete the mandatory OSHA respiratory questionnaire and Obey all OSHA FACAIAL HAIR rules.

·          This class is open to anyone certified Mandatory, Module A &B and up.

 

·          Note: You must have a Mandatory, Module A&B, FF I/II or 2nd class certificate IN HAND to participate. Also you will need to bring your own sack lunch and fluids since this is in a rural setting.

District 7 Instructors have the right to turn away any student  for safety or not following rules.

Rescue and Survival Train-the-Trainer

This course is designed as a Rescue and Survival Train-the-Trainer.  Students will learn the classroom and skills associated with the NFA Program.  This class is extremely physically demanding and hands on.  Students will be required to perform all skills stations a multitude of times to ensure competency.  Turn out gear is a must for skills day. Students must attend all 3 classes and are expected to teach a live class at a later date to be considered as a Safety and Survival Instructor.

Requirements:

·         Must have successfully completed a Rescue and Survival Course (documentation required)

·         Instructor I

·         Must be willing to teach the Safety and Survival course for at least 2 District funded classes throughout a calendar year

 

 

Class size will be extremely limited.  Signing up to attend the course does not guarantee participation.  A selection process including interviews will be followed to ensure the students are well suited to the task.  Once the selection process is completed, the Lead Instructor will contact the selected students to inform them of their participation.
