On April 29, 2016 the EMS Commission voted and approved to convert the current Indiana Basic EMT Cognitive Test to the National Registry EMT Cognitive test.  This will become effective July 1, 2017.  All certified primary instructors are required to attend one training session to become informed on the overall processes for the transition/conversion to the new testing standards and processes of the National Registry EMT testing as well as emphasize the need to teach the national education standards.  While it is required for all PI’s we also encourage all training institution officials and coordinators to attend as well.

District 5 and the Avon Washington Twp. Fire Department are hosting the state sponsored/funded course Everyone Goes Home Courage to Be Safe®.

Class will be held on Wednesday October 5th 2016 at the Avon Washington Twp. Park Pavilion Center in the Aspen room.

Located at 115 south C.R. 575 East in Avon. Follow the signs in the park back to the Pavilion Center

Firefighters must have the courage to face a multitude of risks in order to save lives and protect their communities. Their courage allows them to willingly risk their own lives so that others can be saved. A different type of courage is required to stay safe in potentially dangerous situations, avoiding needless risks and tragic consequences. This provocative and moving presentation is designed to change the culture of accepting the loss of firefighters as a normal occurrence. Building on the untold story of LODD survivors, it reveals how family members must live with the consequences of a firefighter death and provides a focus on the need for firefighters and officers to change fundamental attitudes and behaviors in order to prevent line of duty deaths. The central theme promotes the courage to do the right thing in order to protect yourself and other firefighters and ensure that "Everyone Goes Home" at the end of the day.

Course description

This two-day course demonstrates to students nationally recognized principles that, when used appropriately, can lead to community risk-reduction programs that can measure success in local communities. This course will give students the opportunity to explore programs from communities across the United States that have been showcased at Vision 20/20 symposiums. These programs demonstrate what nationally recognized organizations identify as examples of “best practices” in community risk reduction.
